The world’s first world’s first watch with an active matrix e-ink system. Developed by Seiko, the “Active Matrix EPD” watch [PDF] crams a total of 72,000 pixels into a 2x3cm display. Seiko says the high-resolution 300dpi display offers an extra-wide viewing angle so that wearers can read even small numbers from odd angles. The men-only watch shows four different tones for images (based on black and white). The watch is radio-controlled and powered by a self-recharging solar battery (power consumption stands at just 1-2 micro amperes per second). There will be three different models: stainless steel and stainless steel with gold-tone hard ...

Apple is huge in Japan. The iPhone sells well, as do Macs, the iPad and, of course, the iPod. For years, big A’s music players haven been outselling Sony’s Walkman, the No. 2 favorite device among Japanese consumers. In the past month, however, things have changed (on the picture above, you can see the Sony Walkman S series Sony launched back in May).... - more on CrunchGear You know Japanese prefer their own brand than the foreign one but the fact is Apple taking over the world, included Japan. It's a good news to Sony for sure, personally ...

We reported about G-Dog, a robotic dog developed by Japanese robot venture HPI, for the first time back in November 2008. G-Dog is actually on sale now, even has an English website and was recently captured on video by our friends over at DigInfo News in Tokyo. And the video embedded below shows the robot is able to pull off some pretty impressive moves. Here’s a video showing G-Dog in action (I am guessing this is a high-spec version with many extras on board). It’s in Japanese, but that doesn’t matter too much in this case: G-Dog stands 19cm tall, weighs 570g ...

Here’s something for all iPad hardcore geeks: the Padnote is a sketch pad that has an iPad-like cover and 64 sheets of drawing paper with grid lines and a wide gray border. It’s the brain child of a small Japanese startup called Gocco [JP], which managed to land several deals with brick and mortar stores and major department store chains nationwide. Needless to say, the Padnote’s size exactly matches that of the iPad (242.8 mm x 189.7 mm). In Japan, it has been actually on sale since May (price: $8.35). Contact specialized online store Rinkya if you’re interested but don’t live in ...

I’m still waiting for someone to one-up the whole iPad iDish thing, but this comes pretty close. We’ve learned that eating off of gadgets can be a pretty sensual experience, but sometimes our techno-lust can lead to unpredictable cravings that can only be solved by bacon. If the thought of a Retina Display infused in your morning slice of bacon doesn’t excite those tingling taste buds, then just wait until you see what Japan has in store for us this time.I don’t know what Yakisoba is, nor does the thought of bento box rice seem incredibly appealing. But wrapping your ...

Twitter Becomes A Japanese Role-Playing Game

Even those who find social networking tool Twitter a vapid waste of time might be interested in this, a new role-playing title from Japanese publishers Marvelous that takes a person's Twitter feed and builds a game out of it. Called Followars, it builds a role-playing party for you out of whatever's on your Twitter feed: stuff like your hit points and attack stats determined by criteria like the number of tweets you've made and the number of people following you. In other words, think Pokemon. Only the monsters are you. Their stats, your Twitter trends. While it sounds a bit light, know it's ...
